SEPTA to Offer Promotional Round Trip Weekend Fares for Regional Rail Travel

PHILADELPHIA, May 19 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — SEPTA will offer a special promotional round trip weekend fare on its regional rail trains beginning Memorial Day weekend providing commuters with travel options to many of the summer’s upcoming events.
The promotional round trip fare will be valid for travel to and from Center City Philadelphia during weekends and major holidays at a time when commuters are rethinking their weekend and vacation plans due to rising fuel prices.
With the new promotional round trip fare program, commuters can ride SEPTA to events such as the annual Cycling Championship through Center City Philadelphia to Manayunk’s famed wall, summer concert events at Penn’s Landing, Welcome America festivities and the July 4th fireworks spectacular.
The price of the promotional round trip tickets will range from $6 to $9 depending on length of trip ($6 for Zones 1 & 2, $8 for Zone 3 and $9 Zones 4 & 5) and can be used for travel in the five counties in Pennsylvania that comprise the SEPTA system, as well as Delaware. Round trip ticket prices to Trenton, New Jersey will remain $15.
The new round trip tickets are pink in color and can be purchased at regional rail ticket offices, on board trains or online at shop.septa.org. There is no additional charge for purchasing the promotional weekend tickets on board any train.
The tickets will be valid starting at 5 a.m. on Saturdays when weekend SEPTA regional rail service begins. They will also be valid for travel on major holidays such as Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Commuters planning to travel on SEPTA trains may park for free at SEPTA regional rail stations on weekends.
With SEPTA regional rail ridership up about 14 percent compared to a year ago, the Authority has proposed in its Fiscal Year 2009 Operating Budget several initiatives to enhance service and alleviate overcrowding.
